The Treatment

Hydra-facial deluxe at Skin 111

Who’s it for?

Anyone entering the new year feeling like their face is in need of a really deep cleanse

The experience

One of the newest arrivals on Dubai’s packed medispa scene, Skin 111 is situated rather subtly downstairs on the site of a former florist at the heart of DIFC’s Gate Village. Staff at the clinic have been sourced from across the world, based on their particular areas of expertise, and I have to admit first impressions are that this is a distinctly high-end facility aimed squarely at DIFC’s demanding, and moneyed, patrons. The attention to detail is second to none, from the art on the walls to the gleaming white and rose gold colour scheme, which extends to everything from the coat hangers to the safety signage, and in my bedraggled, sleep-addled mum state, I fear I’m cramping the reception’s style.

But impressive interiors aside, it’s the list of treatments that suggests this clinic might well succeed in standing out from the crowd. Selected for their effectiveness, I’m here to try the multi award-winning hydra-facial, an internationally-recognised system that promises to leave skin cleaner and clearer for up to a month after use.

I’m not sure what to expect, but with my congested pores and Dubai-ravaged visage, I’m intrigued when I discover that the equipment used in the hydra-facial stable of treatments acts like a hoover for the skin, literally sucking dust, debris and detritus out of open pores and replacing it with a host of high-end serums and acids designed to tackle imperfections, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles and all manner of breakouts.

It’s a little unnerving, thanks to its combination of suction and noise, but pain free – and the lie down in a face mask for the final 15 minutes is positively blissful.

The verdict

While my skin is a little pink at the end of the treatment, the effect is genuinely noticeable immediately – my congested pores look clean, shrunken and altogether less dramatic. By the following day the pinkness is gone and I need less foundation to achieve an even tone in the morning – a welcome side effect that remains now, two weeks later.

Two more to try…

01 Detox Cleansing Ritual at The Heavenly Spa

If you’re feeling bloated and sluggish after the holiday season, this 80-minute treatment package at The Westin Dubai, Al Habtoor City’s Heavenly Spa promises to give your skin, and your metabolism, the pep talk they need.

The treatment

Designed to regulate the body’s metabolism, my therapist starts with a full body scrub designed to improve circulation and slough away dead skin. Using a blend of lemon, seaweed and salt ingredients, it’s certainly invigorating. I’m then coated in a beautifully scented wrap of seaweed, eucalyptus and fossil mud and wrapped in plastic, before settling back to let it do its work as I relax on the heated bed. The treatment ends with the application of an Organic Pharmacy oil that I find myself coveting afterwards.

Why try it?

As a way to literally slough off the excesses of winter, this is a well-priced and effective option that will leave you with noticeably softer and smoother skin.

02 SkinCeuticals facial at Aesthetics International

The recent launch of SkinCeuticals treatments at this highly-rated medispa in Jumeirah piqued our interest – not least as the renowned brand claims to create holistic products that protect healthy skin at the same time as correcting previous and preventing future damage.

The treatment

While the clinic offers four different SkinCeuticals facial treatments, I opt for the one promising glowing and radiant skin, in a bid to combat my post-party dullness. Described as a “signature antioxidant treatment”, after a thorough deep cleanse I’m given a potent gel peel to restore natural glow and leave my skin healthier looking, before a host of serums are massaged in to leave me feeling totally relaxed.

Why try it?

If you’re looking for good results without exposing your face to unnecessarily harsh products, this could be the way to go. It’s a serious treatment – but the focus on protection as well as cure means I leave looking healthy and glowing instead of red and patchy, which is always a bonus.
