With so many clinics and spas vying for our attention, knowing which health tests and treatments are worth your dirhams can be dizzying. This month, we look at the salon treatments making use of cult product ranges…

Linda Meredith Haute Couture facial with oxygen

Those who want plumped, brighter, clearer skin – or anyone who has previously travelled to Meredith’s US or UK clinics for her famed treatments, previously unavailable in the UAE.

Famed make-up artist Linda Meredith made her name for herself working with a list of stars that reads like an Oscars nominations list. But having realised that successful work with make-up relied a huge amount on having a good base underneath, she set about creating a skincare range that would give her clients the best possible canvas. Now known as ‘the queen of facials’, her treatments have recently arrived on UAE shores. The acclaimed Haute Couture facial is individually designed for each client based on their personal skincare needs. Mine begins with a deep double cleanse to rid my skin of Dubai’s dirt and debris, before a thorough consultation is carried out to assess any skin problems. My skin is then given a further cleanse with a clay masque before a natural micro peel is applied to remove dead cells and clean deep beneath the surface. The anti-bacterial product is a tad tingly, but the experience is pleasant and far removed from the burning sometimes associated with harsher peels. I then have an oxygen treatment, using medical grade oxygen combined with Linda Meredith O2 serum, which is packed with face-saving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and beta glucan for a significant plumping effect. After a luxurious massage, treatment creams and serums packed with vitamins and essential nutrients to increase hydration are applied.

My skin is immediately, and noticeably, clearer and brighter, with a lovely glow and none of the redness I often associate with facial treatments. I leave the products on all night and don’t apply any make-up, and the following morning, I definitely notice a plumping effect, while my skin feels calmer and less congested that it often does in our harsh climate.

The Haute Couture facial costs from Dhs710 for 60 minutes, Dhs1,195 for a 75-minute treatment including oxygen.

Two more to try…

01 Biologique Recherché Facial

This French skincare firm’s P50 daily exfoliating lotion has nothing less than cult status among beauty buffs, and with good reason. Now, it’s being put to use in the brand’s facials at Dubai’s Project Beauty.

The treatment

Project Beauty offers a wide range of Biologique Recherché facial treatments, but I opt for the Soin Lissant, which uses a variety of the company’s scientifically advanced products to deep clean, tone and treat the skin to leave it feeling, and looking, brighter, clearer and healthier.

Does it work?

There’s a reason the P50 used in this treatment sells out regularly across the globe. The facial technique, using cold rather than warm water to prevent any interaction of heat with the products, takes a little getting used to, but the results are worth it.

02 Margaret Dabbs Ultimate Luxury Foot Therapy

A celebrity favourite, Margaret Dabbs is an internationally-renowned foot expert, and the team of podiatrists at her Dubai outpost, Sole Lounge at Level Shoes, undergo extensive training in London to ensure they offer far more than just cosmetic results.

The treatment

Forget what you think you know about pedicures – this might leave your toes looking prettier, but it’s about far more than aesthetics. A medical pedicure, carried out by a qualified podiastrist, can help sort out everything from ingrown toenails to cracked heels and dry skin, while lymphatic drainage massage and oxygen therapy will leave you feeling tip top afterwards.

Does it work?

Yes, and in a dramatic way – the Margaret Dabbs team saved me from having to have painful toenail surgery after pregnancy swelling ravaged my feet. A voucher for this is now my go-to gift for any new mum, and I won’t let anyone else touch my feet.
