Online homeware company Urban Nest has finally opened a trendy Dubai studio, sourcing stylish furniture, lighting and home accessories from internationally renowned Dutch brands such as HK Living, Puik, DraadZaken and Essenza Home.

Dutch design bears a strong resemblance to Scandinavian but incorporates industrial elements and is a bit more colourful. Owner Janaika Elders, who is Dutch-Peruvian, called it “a bit more playful, with a combination of ethnic and Bohemian elements”.

When the Dubai resident moved with her family from an apartment into a villa and began decorating, she found herself bringing back favourites every time she’d visit Holland. It made sense to launch an online store that would allow her to curate the best of Dutch design.

On offer at the studio are light fixtures made from recycled leather, steel, metals
and wire and plenty of texture-heavy
wall hangings.

We’re big fans of their modern metal chairs, the rattan furniture in unexpected blacks and greens and the various prints of the quirky Dutch Design Brand chair/sidetable/stool made out of cardboard but promising to carry up to 200 kilograms of weight. Also, check out HK Living’s velvet daybeds and cosy hammocks that promise to elevate any living room and help it step into the tropics.

Urban Nest’s new studio is on the ninth floor of the Ibn Battuta Gate Office building. Follow on Instagram for open studio days. Otherwise, visits are by appointment only. Call (050) 3523656
