Family fun race at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort will raise funds for children’s healthcare
Fancy getting your kids more involved in sport, exercise and healthy pursuits, and helping less fortunate youngsters on their own road to health in the process? If so, this month’s family biathlon on Saadiyat Island is a great way to tick both boxes.
Raising funds for the Al Jalila Foundation’s paediatric arm ‘Farah’, meaning happiness, the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort’s sporting event aims to support children undergoing lifesaving treatment in hospitals across the UAE, as well as helping to fund ongoing research into serious childhood illness.
And while a biathlon might sound like a big ask for all but the most active adult participants, the event has been cleverly categorised to ensure there’s an entry group suitable for every age now open for registrations. Junior and adult entrants will complete two 1,600-metre runs plus a 500-metre swim, while cadets, aged 11 to 14, should complete two 500-metre runs, with a 250-metre swim in between. There’s even a Tiny Nippers race for under-tens, where the youngest competitors will be put through their paces with two 200-metre dashes plus a 50-metre wade.
“Giving back to the community in which we operate is one of our top priorities,” explains hotel manager, Marwan Fadel. “With the mild winter weather now upon us, we have decided to host an event outdoors – one that will bring guests and residents together. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to join us for this fun-filled competition.”
